DESCRIPTION OF THE GOOD PRACTICE:

Initially, the definition of school bullying and forms which occur are given. Then, there are cited the possible signs and effects of school bullying in the victims and follows a series of advice given to the child-victim of school bullying and to the parents of children facing intimidating behaviors. The child is encouraged to develop defensive mechanisms in the face of intimidating behaviors of his classmates, to request assistance, but also to develop self-confidence. Parents need to foster the confidence of their children who are been bullied, and to mobilize themselves referring the problem to the teacher, the school Director, the local educational authorities, the Parent and Guardian association of the school. They also need to continually support them psychologically, counsel them and make them feel safe. On the other hand, parents of children who develop aggressive behaviour, are called with appropriate practices to discourage their children from such behaviour. Finally, advice is provided to teachers to effectively deal with school bullying. In particular, are encouraged to investigate, observe and report incidents of bullying at school and at the same time advising students to do the same, with a view to preventing and addressing violence.

EVALUATION:

A child-victim of school bullying, the parents of the victim, offender's parents, teachers and anyone else interested can find through this brochure the meaning of school bullying, how this is likely to occur, what are the signs and consequences of school bullying to victims, but also can find practical advice for coping with the phenomenon, which assessed that can have positive results, in order to enhance the safety of children in school, to support children who are bullied, but also to deter those who display aggressive behavior. In particular, it is pointed out the necessity of the invigoration of children’s confidence and talk about the occurrence of intimidation which have suffered. Parents of children-victims of school bullying are encouraged to develop everyday contact with their child and to be particularly watchful for possible signs of victimization of their children. It is also essential for parents to communicate with the school and to participate in meetings of the Parent and Guardian association. In fact, they are encouraged to mobilize and other parents, to protest and to assume a more support role in their children's school life. Communication with the child and the search for help is also recommended if parents discover that their child intimidate other children. It is suggested moreover psychotherapeutic assistance if necessary. Finally, educators are being encouraged to raise awareness among children about the issue of school bullying, to make clear rules of behaviour in schools, to encourage children to report incidents of intimidation that occur at school, but also to monitor for incidents of intimidation during breaks, in the courtyard, on excursions, aiming to prevent and address issues of school violence. pages
