DESCRIPTION OF THE GOOD PRACTICE:

From the Health Education Bureau of the Directorate of Secondary Education of Fthiotida Prefecture is provided initially information on the phenomenon of school bullying, the forms in which it occurs, but also it is pointed out the lack of preventive measures by teachers and parents, since they do not demonstrate the requisite sensitivity and they do not interfere on time, when and where needed. That is why it is proposed the promotion of health education programmes, aimed at preventing and managing conflict and bullying incidents that result in the school community. Those programmes are targeted at students, teachers and parents with a view to inform and raise awareness. Children learn how to manage their anger, how to resist pressure from their peers to engage in an act of violence or intimidation. Children are encouraged to smash the silence, to talk about incidents of violence occurring in the school. Teachers are provided with the appropriate information for a careful investigation of violence phenomena and their confrontation, whenever such events occur in schools.

EVALUATION:

The aim of Health education programs is to improve communication between pupils, teachers and parents and to promote the principles of equality and democracy and the respect for individual rights. These programs help the weakest to strengthen their confidence. They also corroborate the acceptance of diversity and of different thoughts and desires. Children learn to ask for help from teachers, parents and classmates, so as to face the aggressiveness of other children. The briefing aims to support teachers in handling situations that can sometimes are overwhelming and it also aims to prevent and limit the school-based violence. pages
