DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

As much as we try to protect our children, both between and during lessons, violence remains an issue that many schools in Romania are confronted with. For this reason, the author of this book “Școala nonviolenței. Îndrumar de activități școlare și extrașcolare în domeniul dezvoltării abilităților de viață ale elevilor”, proposes a series of techniques designed to help us fight this phenomenon, but also to develop certain preventative life skills for pupils.
School life can’t be protected from violence completely– it is a virus, against which it is imperative to act with tact and understanding, recognising its complexity and the fact that it not an characteristic of schools, but of human beings in general.
In schools cases of harassment, verbal abuse and physical violence amongst pupils occur fequently. Measures attempting to confront violence during classes, individual counseling, meetings and lectures to parents, discussions with guests from the Police Department, low grades, expulsion, disciplinary transfer, and many others seem to be completely inefficient with schools remaining utterly incapable of controlling this issue.

REVIEWER’S COMMENTS ON THE DOCUMENT:

The institutions responsible for the regulation of violent behavior run projects annually to combat this phenomenon. These projects are not very successful, mainly due to the lack of innovative approaches to the problem. The projects undertaken are based on long out-dated approaches to education, whilst the society has changed considerably.
The need to find a viable model, a guide for good case practices prompted the author to search and reference courses and seminars both in Romania and internationally.
This paper is addressed mainly to teachers, school counselors, principals and parents. They can learn from this book how they can actively participate in the fight against school violence.
