DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

This book is one of the few longitudinal studies on the research field of violence in schools and provides the reader three similar studies within a 10-year period.
The authors try to clarify, apart from the brutality individual cases illustrated in the media, how the current situation of violence in schools is figured and has developed over a longer period. After the two survey waves of 1994 and 1999, in 2004 in a representative and broad-based survey of 4523 students the violence situation in education and vocational schools was surveyed again. The focus is thus on the scientific recording of the actual dimension of violence in schools and its development from 1994 to 2004. This volume revised the distorted opinion of a constantly increasing and qualitative becoming more brutal dimension of violence which is often presented by the media.
Contently this book is very well structured. Each table is completed by detailed written explanations. The authors deal with both perpetrators and victims and analyze conditions for aggressive behavior.

REVIEWER’S COMMENTS ON THE DOCUMENT:

This book provides the reader a scientific longitudinal study over a period of 10 years, thus providing valid results about the dimension of violence at the time of each survey time. But the most important thing is that this study makes it possible to make statements about developments and trends in the phenomenon of violence on the basis of comparable data sets.
