DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

The reviewed publication starts with a brief presentation on the topic of “Aggression as a phenomenon and problem”. Then the publication gives a presentation of the “factors, presupposing aggression in youth”. Interesting and useful are the pieces of advice given by the specialist, namely how to manage aggression and what behavior should the parents demonstrate and what lessons they should teach to their children in order to curb the appearance and deployment of aggressive behavior on their behalf. The material also presents a selection of thoughts and reflections of children and youths on the topic of aggression and violence in school. The material goes through a section motivating and encouraging good behavior and personal realization of youths, namely a section presenting a summary of successes and achievements of a group of students from the school.
At the end of the material there is a test for determining the level of aggression.

REVIEWER’S COMMENTS ON THE DOCUMENT:

This publication would be useful and interesting as a reading mainly for children and youths, because its approach is very close to and very likely to easily affect the feelings and understandings of children and youths. The beginning of the publication, which gives a certain theoretical basis for the issue connected with aggression as a phenomenon and problem is very easy to read and understate and is thus an excellent starting point for this particular target group. The consecutively presented factors, presupposing aggressiveness in young age also create opportunities for easy comprehension of the material and a smooth transition to the useful pieces of advice presented in the follow up by a specialist on the subject. These pieces of advice are namely focused on managing aggression and proper parental behavior and lessons to the children, which will prevent the arousal and demonstration of aggression on their behalf. The presented selection of thoughts and reflections of children and youth regarding violence and aggression at school is a demonstration of opinions in a very psychologically and expressively close to the children manner, which directly influences and encourages thinking and further awareness of the problem and acceptance of the proposed as proper behavior. The summary of successes and achievements of a group of students from the school gives a good practical example how good behavior and suppression of aggression can lead to excellent achievements.
The presented test for determining the level of aggression is quite useful, because the included questions give a very good orientation on the main factors, which specify one person as more or less aggressive. The results after doing the test – the number of points collected and the reference to a certain category – give a description of the different situations, although the approach is being slightly perfunctory due to the fact that questions with different severity and importance bring the same number of points.
