DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

Bullying has been recently recognized by many nations as a matter of national health. International standards call for legislative measures for the protection of children against all forms of violence. It’s essential through all members of the school community to work on preventing bullying.
The research results are contradictory regarding the involvement of parents and school teachers as single players in the prevention of bullying. Parents and teachers are thought to be mostly indifferent by the students, whereas students do not reveal bullying neither at school nor at home. Nevertheless, it is clear that the level of cooperation between parents and school teachers towards the prevention of bullying is low.
Students may be protected from bullying firstly by being supported, by communicating and connecting to their family, having high expectations, by the creation of participation opportunities for them, etc. and secondly by an effective way of managing the school, including prevention and facing of the phenomenon, clear rules, emergency plan, reporting box, etc.
The role of the teacher is of high importance on this issue. He can either embody prevention elements in the class or a program of promotion and health education. Coping skills and peer education are two more methods the teacher may use.
The role of parents is to identify the problem and be ready to take all necessary steps to resolve it. Mostly important the parents shall defend their victim child or be ready to work on promoting to his bully child peace as a way of solving problems.
As a conclusion one may say that the importance of the health policies developed in school is much higher than the quality of health sector services.

REVIEWER’S COMMENTS ON THE DOCUMENT:

Whereas many have been analyzing bullying from various perspectives and it has been an issue attracting the attention of many authors lately, none has approached the issue in such a simple and useful manner. This web article is an ideal summarized presentation of the bullying issue. The importance of using a crystal clear language, when addressing to those who shall be involved in solving the issue is of crucial importance. Especially since research states that those who mainly have the potential to solve this issue (parents and teachers) are thought to be mostly indifferent by the students. The ways proposed to tackle with bullying involve all parts of the puzzle. Students, Teachers, Parents, School directors, Key policy makers are offered directions for future acts. Nevertheless, the article focuses on directing the parents and school teachers mostly, on how to resolve the issue. There stands the wisdom of the author, as she silently implies, that whatever the rules and laws are, it’s the parents and teachers who will implement them and give the solution to the issue.
