REVIEWER’S COMMENTS ON THE DOCUMENT:

According to the interviewee in order for the approaches for prevention and combating violence the latter need to be based on the formulated more than 30 years ago principles of Olweus:
• Support, positive interest and attracting the grown ups.
• Strict norms and curbing unacceptable behavior.
• Consistency in the application of non-punishing, non-physical sanctions in case of breaking the rules and unacceptable behavior.
• Active involvement of the grown ups in their role of authorities and role models.
According to the interviewee what is necessary to be done inside the Bulgarian school for responding to violence are the following actions:
- Introduction of uniform standards for psychological support of the education. Such have been developed already and were accepted during the III congress on psychology.
- Introduction of world-established “Anti-Bulling” programs and their financing. Such models are ready and adapted.
- Measures for restructuring the school plans and programs for introduction of more hours for building skills for resolution.
- Courses on health education, carrier development, civil education, family planning and others. Most of these programs are already developed.
- Restructuring of the school system and increasing the financial support of the students. The existence of giant schools with more than 1800 – 2000 students in the big cities with classes of about 30-32 students creates a favorable environment for aggression and bullying.
- Active participation of the civil society and acceptance of a law against school violence. Such laws exist in a number of countries across the world.
