DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

After analyzing the problem thanks to a discussion with the guys, the Police address a sort of handbook to parents and educators that focuses on the correct behaviour and corrective support strategies to be applied in case of specific attitudes which have been experienced by the Police so far.
Teenagers - who are often victims of this wrong attitude - avoid speaking to parents about what is happening to them. They do not open their heart to anyone, they feel ashamed and are afraid of talking. But children must learn that bullying is a wrong behavior which is not a key element of a correct upbringing process. In order to avoid victims of this phenomenon we need:
to increase self-esteem;
to encourage them to develop their positive attitude, personality and skills;
to enhance a profitable relationships with peers and to make them give up the temptation to stay alone;

It is therefore important that we need to teach teenagers the following steps to avoid their tendency to become bullies:
They should learn to use their anger in a rational way and with maturity, to communicate fairly, to be capable of communicating with the others and to understand the consequences of the own behavior.
They should follow their families’ examples.
Parents should learn to identify the messages that their children send them or leave them hidden.
Here are some clues that can help identify the victims of bullying:
they may find an excuse to play truant, to stay at home or to be accompanied by someone.
They may ask for money frequently
They may be upset, whiny or sad after school
They may have livid marks, scratches and tears in the clothes
They may sleep badly or damp the bed
They may confess they have no friends
They may avoid telling about what happens at school

REVIEWER’S COMMENTS ON THE DOCUMENT:

It is useful to make students fill in a questionnaire and to organize a debate or a meeting among parents or among teachers or both among parents and teachers. The important thing is to understand how this phenomenon is widespread. A more intense surveillance during the break and in the canteen could protect potential victims. These are the most common moments where bullies can act undisturbed. Generally older students tend to become bullies towards younger ones. A solution that may be applied consists in the division of the break period for the two groups. Praise, compensation and sanction may be useful to change the behavior of the most aggressive students, but they do not represent the sole strategy to make bullies behave differently. People often feel ashamed of taking about what is happening to them. A phone number may be useful for parents and victims. Or we may create “aggression boxes” where people can leave messages, or we may find out good students that help the victims, or open a psycho-pedagogical counseling centre for students and parents.
