DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

School bullying is increasing and many crimes are not reported to the police. Teenagers are victims of cyber bullying. Bullying was the hot issue discussed during the last three-month period in 2010 at ITIS Galileo Galilei in Rome where a round table “the new frontiers of bullying” took place. Here are some of the most important topics discussed during the meeting:
The non-profit Digital Youth association in Rome in the fight against the Digital divide, invites students, teachers and experts to go into the matter and to create strategies apt to combat cyber bullying. Over 35 % of the students states that abuse happens at school and experts that issued the 6° Report on the conditions in childhood and adolescence (Eurispes – Kids help phone line) point out that it is difficult to define this phenomenon because bullying acts remain hidden. Much more hidden are the bullying phenomenon linked to the misuse of mobiles and other devices; according to a research of the Anti-bullying Alliance in London a teenager out of 5 is victim of aggressions through blog, forum, mail (chat-web bullying) and text messages (text-bullying). The meeting was organized thanks to the law 285/97 and among the participants there were the Minister of youth and sports Giovanna Melandri, the president of the Digital Youth association Tullio De Mauro and the Education Committee Chairman in Rome Maria Coscia.

REVIEWER’S COMMENTS ON THE DOCUMENT:

Considering the participants involved in politics and the presence of committee chairmen, all involved in the fight to protect young people, the good result of this round table makes us aware of the possibilities that each public institution have to carry out the strategies and good practices that sometimes remain intentions. The reference to European researches are a good support to create quickly a new and positive report on the condition of young people.
