DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

The article consists of a selected bibliographical review regarding victimization in school environment. It includes the definition of victimization, its range and the various forms of victimization. Victimization has many forms, according to the article, and more often is observed as physical and verbal violence targeting bullying. It is also observed as untruthful rumors’ expansion and embarrassment. It is important to add that there is a disagreement wether social seclusion is a form of victimization. Researches have sown that teachers don’t always agree with the above mentioned form of victimization.
The article continues with the bullies’ characteristics, who usually are aggressive, tough, have self-confidence, are acting without thought, are popular and have grades bellow the average. On the other hand, victims appear problematic, are lonely, immature, have deficient communication and conflict resolving abilities and do not like school. Moreover, the article mentions that most victimization incidents occur in public places, like school yard, classroom and school corridors. That makes the limitation of the phenomenon easier, as it can be supervised.
Furthermore, psycho-social consequences of victimization are presented, as well as differences that may exist due to age, the theoretical aspects of the phenomenon definition, while the ways of recording victimization are mentioned. Last, the article presents the attempt of victimization solving and it is attempted the assessment of the results. Ways of handling in school, classroom and personal level is suggested.

REVIEWER’S COMMENTS ON THE DOCUMENT:

This article is published in the magazine of the Greek Review of Social Research. It presents the various aspects of victimization and attempts to cover the most important issues. Definitions range and forms of victimization are mentioned. It continues with bullies’ characteristics, as well as victims’ characteristics and the places that victimization can take place. Furthermore, psycho-social consequences of victimization are presented, as well as differences that may exist due to age, the theoretical aspects of the phenomenon definition, while the ways of recording victimization are mentioned. Last, the article presents the attempt of victimization solving and it is attempted the assessment of the results. Ways of handling in school, classroom and personal level is suggested.
The interest on victimization has started as part of the attempt to recognize and protect children’s rights, which mention, among else, that children mustn’t be maltreated or discriminated. The interest is on having a safe school environment that allows the expected and without restrictions children’ development. This is why a series of researches have been conducted, the results of some are presented in this article. What is concluded from the bibliographical review is that the problem of exists and has serious consequences to the victims. Can create problems in students and make unsafe the school environment. The phenomenon exploration, its recording, the bullies’ and victims’ characteristics acknowledgment and the possible causes is essential in order to understand it.
