DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

In the content of this article the author speaks about aggression in schools, aggressive behavior, the causes of this phenomenon and the activities that can be used to reduce the aggressive behavior amongst pupils.
In the first part of the article the author presents the phenomenon of aggression in schools in its multiple forms. We see that all of the following are considered types of aggression: visual confrontation, name-calling, irony, teasing, hitting with different objects, slapping and reaching more severe forms like stabbing and shooting.
After that we find the causes that lead to the apparition of this kind of behavior amongst pupils. Out of this we find: family problems (separated families, poor families), families in which a tense climate exists, hipper permissive families, modes of behavior learned in the family, the entourage, age specific characteristics (the need to attract attention, to impress, out of rebellious behavior, asserting masculinity), the socio-economical situation and the relation between pupils and teachers.
In the last part of the material there are mentioned some activities that can be put into practice in order to reduce aggressive behavior amongst pupils. For example: debates during supervision classes on the topic of violent behavior amongst pupils, the organization of recreational activities that have are non-violent in nature, psychological counseling of pupils that are aggressive and of their victims, realization of lectureships with parents on the topic of violent behavior and many others.

REVIEWER’S COMMENTS ON THE DOCUMENT:

Just like many other articles in this field, this one also presents violence in schools, its causes and some possible solutions for this problem. The importance of this article comes from the treating of this phenomenon in its overwhelming complexity. In the content of the article there are presented all forms of violent behavior, taking into consideration a scale of intensity, starting from the lowest intensity and reaching high intensity behavior such as stabbing and shooting.
Among the causes leading to such a phenomenon the author insists more on the following three: school learning motivation, social and economic circumstances and student teacher relationship. Unlike other articles in this field, this one focuses on teachers and the relationship that develops between them and their pupils. Moreover, it highlights the collaboration between teachers and the pupil’s parents.
The final part of this article is of great importance because we find listed about 12 activities that can be used to reduce aggression among pupils.
It concludes by emphasizing the role of teachers as educational agents in shaping student’s behavior.
