REVIEWER’S COMMENTS ON THE DOCUMENT:

This document was chosen for its short but to the point analysis of school bullying and victimization. It is featured in a magazine published by the University of Thessaloniki and it is addressed primarily to the students of pedagogy. One of it’s strongest points is that it distinguishes school bullying from quarrels between students of (almost) the same level of “power”.
What distinguishes bullying from a simple quarrel are three main points/ criteria.
a. Imbalance (power wise) between the victim and the bully.
b. The fact that it is premeditated
c. The frequency of the offensive actions
These clear points are often omitted from surveys of this kind.

This document covers almost all aspects of the phenomenon. It starts with the definition of school bullying and victimization. Then the kinds are being named, as well as the spread of the phenomenon and the characteristics of the victims and the bullies.
It is also mentioned that through the use of questionnaires for students, parents and teachers alike , the phenomenon can be traced. Some ways of intervention and anti bullying strategies are also mentioned.
More specifically it is pointed out that the only way to deal with the problem is the collaboration between all the major factors in education.
Some ways of prevention , sensitization as well as practices that are to be followed when the phenomenon appears in a school, are mentioned.
The diagrams and statistical facts that are used are also very important.
