DESCRIPTION
OF THE ORGANISATION
Wilsthorpe Community School is a United Kingdom secondary school, located on the outskirts of Long Eaton, about 5 miles from Nottingham and close to the M1 and East Midlands Airport. The school has been established for over 50 years and is set on a very pleasant campus which we share with Harrington Junior School, Parklands Primary School and Brackenfield ‘Special’ School.

We currently have about 850 students aged 11-18 and an intake that covers the full ability range from potential 'Oxbridge' candidates to students with serious learning difficulties.

About 50 teaching staff work on site and we have a similar number of 'support' staff. As a specialist school in ‘Business and Enterprise’ our vision is to empower all our students to achieve their full potential, to develop a lifelong love of learning and to become responsible, tolerant and enterprising citizens in a constantly changing world. We are passionate about teaching and learning, proud of the school and the surrounding community and committed to the support and development of every individual.

In 2009 Wilsthorpe achieved the status of being included in the ‘100 most improved schools in the country’ list and in 2010 the school achieved the best results in the county for 5 A* - C GCSE examinations with a 91% success rate.

The school has established exchange links with Ananda College in Columbo, Sri Lanka. This is the premier Buddhist boy’s school in Sri Lanka with a current student population of over 6,000 from kindergarten to GCE Advanced level.
EXPERIENCE IN PREVIOUS PROJECTS Wilsthorpe has experience of two previous European projects:

Art Net, which is a European Network for the sharing of Art Teaching materials. For further information see: www.elearning-art.net

The School Inclusion Project, which is a project aimed at identifying and preventing young people from dropping out and leaving school early. For further information see: schoolinclusion.pixel-online.org
