DESCRIPTION
OF THE ORGANISATION
The University of Seville is one of the oldest universities in Spain (we have recently celebrated the fifth century since university foundation), and the fourth university according to its current size: more than 60000 students and 7000 professionals. This relevance has been recently awarded with the title of “International Campus of Excellence” by a commission of international experts and the Ministery of Education.

The Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology of the University of Seville (US) focuses its work on the study of developmental and educational psychology as well as developing intervention resources to be applied in formal and non-formal contexts. The staff is composed of around 50 teachers and researchers. It is organised on six research groups that conduct research mainly in the topics: Family and development, co-education, school violence and bullying, special needs, teacher training, and New Technologies. These teams have wide expertise leading national and international research projects, and collaborating with other research teams around the world.

Partners are also members of the “Laboratory of Studies about Convivencia and Prevention of Violence (LAECOVI)”. This research group, lead by Prof. Rosario Ortega, has been pioneer in Spain in studies about school bullying and violence (including cyberbullying and dating violence).
EXPERIENCE IN PREVIOUS PROJECTS The University of Seville shows a big expertise in managing research, and collaboration projects with other institutions. It is currently participating and managing more than 200 projects (among National and European/International programmes) in all the areas of knowledge.

As members of LAECOVI, we have directly participated in some national and European projects mainly focused on school bullying problems (see next for a reference of the last five years):
  • European Programme “Socrates, Minerva”: Project “Visionaries-net: Online-Networks of experts engaged in Violence Prevention in School”.
  • European Programme “Socrates, Comenius 2.1”: Project “Violence in Schools Training Action-On line Courses for teachers in Europe (VISTOP)”.
  • European Programme “DAPHNE”: Project “An investigation into forms of peer-peer bullying at school in pre-adolescent and adolescent groups: New instruments and preventing strategies”.
  • European Programme “Leonardo”: Project “CyberTraining: A research-based training manual on cyberbullying”.
  • European Programme “COST”: Project “Cyberbullying: Coping with negative and enhancing positive uses of new technologies, in relationships in educational settings”.
  • National Programme I+D: Project “VICO: dating violence”.
  • National Programme I+D: Project “VIEJUCO: School violence and dating violence”.
  • Andalusian Excellence Research Programme: Project “School violence in Andalusia (VEA)”.
  • Andalusian Excellence Research Programme: Project “Coping with cyberbullying: assessing the impact and coping strategies use”.
CONTACT PERSON’S EXPERIENCE Dr. Mora-Merchán has led the Spanish partner in “CyberTraining” Project (funded by EU Leonardo Programme) and he is also leading a project funded by Excellence Research Programme in Spain (““Coping with cyberbullying: assessing the impact and coping strategies use”). He has also actively participated in national projects (SAVE, ANDAVE), and also on several European Projects, including TMR project “Nature and prevention of bullying”, or “VISIONARIES-NET” on the topic of school bullying and violence since nineties. Right now, he is participating in national and regional projects on dating violence and school bullying (including a study on cyberbullying). That work has led to the development of effective interventions to tackle the problem of school violence. He is MC member of COST initiative IS0801 about cyberbullying. As result of his work, he has given keynote addresses on his work at national and international conferences and has published widely in the field of school violence, including some records on cyberbullying.
