Founded in 2002 by NSPCC (National Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children)and National Children's Bureau, the Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA) brings together over 70 organisations into one network. They look to develop a consensus around how to stop and prevent bullying. They aim to influence policy and they work to develop and disseminate best practice.
The site contains most resources and information needed to combat bullying, including:
1) Bullying definitions
2) Strategies for dealing with bullying including guidance on
what to include in an anti-bullying policy; a whole school
approach; data collection; prevention and response;
intervetions; involving students; working with parents; help
for Governors; Case studies etc
3) Resources including a school assessment tool; questionnaires
for different yaer groups; A questionnaire for children with
special educational needs and disabilities; a guide for
governors; a series of 'How to Guides' suggested books and
films; theatre companies; links to a whole series of DCSF
(Department for Children Schools and Families) 'Safe to Learn
Guides' e.g. cyber bullying, homophobic bullying, bullying
relating to race, religion and culture, sexist, sexual and
transphobic bullying, bullying involving children with special
educational needs and disabilities; SEAL (Social and
Emotional Aspects of Learning)
Definition of bullying or cyberbullying, Intervention protocol, Parent training/meetings, Disciplinary methods, Classroom management, Teacher training, Whole-school anti-bullying policy, Information for parents, Cooperative group work.
This is probably on eof the best known UK anti-bullying web sites and a 'one-stop shop' for anti-bullying resources and it is highly recommended for schools, Local Authorities, local communities, etc.
Our only minor criticism is that the web site is not that easy to use, but the superb content more than makes up for this minor disadvantage. pages
