Antibullying strategies – mass media – prevention - socio-psychological mechanism – practical handbook
Book
Parents, Teachers, School Directors.
Over 100 pages
Every day all TV programs, news, radio, newspapers and magazines deal with the bullying phenomenon. According to Fedeli this topic is not analysed from the scientific point of view; it is above all considered from the emotional moment and a particular situation and it ignores the socio-psychological mechanism that makes bullies and victims exist. Antibullying strategies written by Daniele Fedeli focuses on a new point of view of this phenomenon. He stresses the importance to overcome prejudices that mass media usually present because they analyse the phenomenon from the external and not from the internal point of view. The author finds out several specific categories of the phenomenon and provides a wide range of useful materials not only to prevent and face this evil that affects our adolescent society but also to help children to be free from the role of bully or victim. This book is addressed to parents, teenagers and also teachers because they have to cope with this problem every day and they sometimes are not able or trained enough to face this problem adequately and adopt wrong strategies which are most of the times harmful both for the bully and for the victim.
The author, a university teacher at the Unversity in Udine, is particulary interested in bullying and has written a lot of books on the topic, taken part in conferences and organised courses for teachers. This book is extremely interesting because it offers a lot of tips on the topic analysing the problem from various points of view, from the scientific and psychological to the social one. Finally it is a valid “practical handbook” full of strategies to be applied by families and people involved in the educational system.
