DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

Dan Olweus has been researching more than 30 years in the field of violence in schools and conducted many large-scale studies in Scandinavia. With this book he supplies a standard work, which explaines the causal factors of violence, the specifics and countermeasures at different levels.
The book is divided into different thematic sections. At the beginning Olweus supplies many research results that deliver a meaningful picture of the current situation. Through factual, clear and simple terms this book introduces each non-professional in the research field of violence.
In the second part of the book it is explained what can help the different actors in the school context to prevent or reduce violence. Detailed measures on teachers, parents, and student level are presented. There you will find clear instructions and support. This prevention and intervention model is simple determinable and can be implemented in a realistic scale.
The third part of the book deals with the possible impact of the intervention program, which has been performed and evaluated in the meanwhile several times in Germany.
In Part Four, readers get practical advice. These advices are arranged according to teachers, pupils and parents.

Dan Olweus is considered as a pioneer in the field of research on bullying. This book is a long runner and a standard reference that discusses in detail how violence can occur in school and how students, teachers and parents can tackle this problem. Furthermore, it describes a prevention program developed a by Olweus which was often successfully used. This book provides a guide particularly suitable for parents.
