The purpose of the task was to study the phenomenon of juvenile delinquency and predatory conduct that takes place usually in school and also the family's role in the occurrence of this phenomenon. More specifically, studied the effect of Endo-family relationships and experiences of students in the event of violent and aggressive behavior.
The study involved 204 pupils from secondary schools of Patras. Students were given a questionnaire with Likert-type questions, concerning their views on school violence, their family and school experiences and other related matters. The results showed that the phenomenon of violence at school age increased as the children grow older.
At the same time, the boys have more and more frequent cases of violence. The study of the role of the family has three factors (family conflicts, family experiences and general social behavior) which explain an important part of school violence of pupils. These results support and comply with international studies on the role played by the family.
Also the results generate further questions about treatment and prevention of similar behaviors. The strengthening and improvement of Endo-family climate, as well as the intensification of relations between school and family might help in tackling the problem of school violence.
This research shows the impact of family environment in the development of aggressive behavior in school. This is a survey conducted by the University of Patras within a program of transnational cooperation (Socrates-Comenius) to combat school violence. It involved 204 students, who were asked to respond to Likert – type questionnaires concerning behavior at school, their family experiences, etc.
The statistical analysis of the findings showed that the Endo-family conflicts can cause some students to violence and aggression, which occurs frequently in the Greek reality. Furthermore, this study has confirmed that school aggression is more frequent in boys, and that it displays a positive correlation with age.
The fact that the investigation was carried out in schools of a provincial city, is an important element and indicates that the problem of school aggression does not affect only the large school complexes in the capital. In addition, adolescents students at this research represent a different sample of the normal samples of students of primary education and this shows the extent of this phenomenon in secondary education.
Finally, this study demonstrates the need for improved relations between school and family, especially in secondary education where the presence of parents in school is not enough. Constant contact and communication between school and family is necessary in order to be feasible the creation of a network for the student’s protection and support, especially those who show samples of the offending conduct.
