Starting from the forms Bullying might take among children of school age, the writers refer analytically to tangible real examples, such as slaps when referring to physical violence, destroying of objects when referring to emotional violence, defaming graffiti when referring to verbal violence, unwanted caress when referring to sexual harassment, threatening sms when referring to electronic Bullying. The possible signs, which may reveal a victim of bullying are then written down. Those might be denial to eat food or denial to go to school, crying before falling asleep etc. There follows a direct reference to victims, giving the analytical directions on how to behave against bullies together with direction on how and where to seek for help after an incident.
The directions to parents are further analytical. Those include ways to approach the child so as to help it reveal Bullying incidents to parents, ways to stop bullies right at the moment a bullying incident occurs, as well as, directions on communicating with official authorities and counseling services. The directions towards parents end with the case of having a bully-child. It is then parents, who should work towards preventing their child from practicing such behaviors and develop dialogue so as to present ways to behave and resolve quarrels others than violence. Emphasis is given to non-punishment, together with the implementation of other non-violent methods parents should use to deal with children; methods, which set an example of non-violence from the parents’ side.
It’s all about a compact and short article, distillation of experience rather than creation of theories. It consists one of the most representative samples of writings for school bullying reality in Greece. It is aimed to be written that way since it targets on parents and victim-students. The value of it is further guaranteed through the value of its writers. Right from the start of it, is attempted to write down dozens of examples of school bullying. It is then the time for the signs of behavior to be presented plus other signs, which imply a child might be a victim. The directions to the victim-child and the parents are not limited to general words. They are well studied solutions, which the writers chose after close examination of real incidents. That’s the power of the article, it’s “alive”, it comes from experienced people, people who do not try to hide anything.
