This piece of research, authored by 8th grade pupils, starts by explaining in absolute terms, 'bullying' as a definition. After that, they present the main reasons pupils become aggressors. The authors then draw principal focus to the fact that the majority of people dont take bullying seriously unless they themselves are confronted with it. The problem originates in the general public's ignorance to the ubiquity of bullying in schools and that it has the power to destroy a child’s future, with many too afraid to attend school, crippling themselves academically as a result. In the following sections, the authors take every situation a pupil might be in: as a victim, an aggressor or witness, and provide some practical advice for each.
In the final part of this research step we are shown an example of a good case practice, called, 'Anti-bullying week'. During the period of this initiative all schools had to take an active role in reducing bullying behaviour. It seems that this initiative has become something of a tradition, this edition presented by the pupils being the third.
This research step, though fairly unscientific in its examinations, must be greatly valued because of the understanding and authenticity it's 8th grader authors can provide. In the content of this study we can find presented another form of bullying called cyber-bullying. While in the majority of materials the focus is on physical violence, we see that in this piece, all forms of bullying are treated with equal respect and as of equal importance.
The most important aspect of this paper is the advice that the pupils themselves provide. These pieces of advice are very easy to put in practice and have a big impact, mainly amongst pupils, because they come from pupils like them.
In conclusion, this research has tremendous importance in its treatment of various issues and its direct experienced advice. It must, however, be recognised that the age of the authors means that a degree of close analysis of the issue may be missed.
