DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

The book " Konfliktmanagement an Schulen: Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Schulmediation” collected by the editors Christiane Simsa and Wilfried Schubarth gives a detailed, Germany-wide overview of the topic of conflict management in schools with a special focus on school mediation. The book begins with an introduction to the opportunities and limits of school mediation, which is followed by an article about the development of violence in Bavarian schools. Afterwards, possible ways of conflict management in schools are discussed, basically legitimate sanctions that can be used in case of violent actions carried out by students an also mediation as an alternative model of intervention. Then, there are different articles presented, as for example one that focuses on the evaluation of mediation projects in schools and one that focuses on constructive ways of conflict management in case of violent incidents. Other articles of this book report from different experiences made in the particular federal states of Germany. For example, Angela Mickley explains about the mediation in schools and youth sector of Berlin and Brandenburg, Helmholt Rademacher gives an overview of the systemic implementation of school mediation in Hesse, Franz Diehl clarifies the situation of school mediation in Rhineland-Palatinate and Heiner Wichterich reports about Peer Mediation in schools in North Rhine-Westphalia. Other interesting and important articles are for example the one in which the implementation of a project idea about moral courage, violence prevention and mediation is presented, an article about the quality assurance and sustainability in terms of school mediation, and a general article about the limits and possibilities of school mediation.
